Our Beliefs

What We Believe

What We Believe From the time of the Apostles to today, Christians have laid out doctrine (beliefs) in brief, definitive statements. As those who know God, we believe it is necessary to set forth in a concise fashion the cornerstone truths of our church as guided by Scripture. Our Statement of Faith summarizes essential Christian beliefs, shows unity in Christ, and guards the church from error. All who join Rhema Word Ministries are required to affirm our Statement of Faith. Once we as members agree to the statement, we are responsible for believing and living in accordance with it.

1. OF THE SCRIPTURES: We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Bible in its entirety. (II Timothy 3:16-17; I Peter 1:23-25; Hebrews 4:12.)

2. CONCERNING GOD: We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

3. CONCERNING JESUS: We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead; that He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the intercessor. (John 1:1-2 and 14; I Timothy 3:16; Acts 7:37-38.)

4. OF THE FALL OF MAN: We believe that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.

5. JUSTIFICATION: We believe that justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.

6. SANCTIFICATION: We believer that sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word; and by the Holy Ghost.

7. WAY OF LIVING: WE Believe Holiness to be God's standard of living for His people. (1 Peter 1:16)

8. THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost according to (Acts 2:4; 10:46; 19:6) that speaking in other tongues is the accompanying sign of receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost. (Mark 16:17.) We also hold that the real evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost is one’s response to the Word of God. (John 16:13), a Christ-like life, showing forth Christ’s character, nature and experiencing and manifesting the fruit of the Holy Ghost. (John 15:26; 16:14; Galatians 5:22-23.)

9. TONGUES: In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:4; 10:46; 19:6)

10. WATER BAPTISM: In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19.)

11. HEALING: We believe in divine healing for the whole man. Healing was obtained through the atonement in Christ’s sacrificial death (I Peter 2:24-25; Isaiah 53:4-5).We believe in healing as practiced by the early church (Acts 4:30; 19:11; Romans 8:11; I Corinthians 12:9; James 5:14).

12. HOLY COMMUNION: We believe in the Lord's Supper and washing of the Saints' feet.

13. THE RAPTURE: We believe in the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living Saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.

14. THE RESURRECTION: We believe in the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous and eternal punishment for the wicked.

15. LAYING ON OF HANDS: We believe in the doctrine of the laying on of hands for: a.) The confirming of believer’s faith. (Acts 14:22.)b.) The confirmation of one’s call by the laying on of hands with prophecy. (Acts 13:1,3.)c.) The impartation of the spiritual gifts when accompanied by prophecy and the laying on of hands. (I Timothy 4:14; II Timothy 1:6.)d.) The ordination and official recognition and setting apart for the ministry.e.) The impartation of the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 8:17-18.)f.) The ministry of healing the sick. (Mark 16:16.)g.) The blessing and dedication of children. (Mark 10:16.)

16. FIVE FOLD MINISTRY: We believe in the five-fold ministries given to the Church at the ascension of Jesus Christ and that they continue to be needed and should be expected today, that is ministries of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. (Ephesians 4:11-12.)
